Jamie Phillips

Jamie is a senior physiotherapist, who studied a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) at the University of South Australia, due to having a keen interest in sport science. He then went on to complete his Master of Physiotherapy (GE), and recently completed a post-graduate Master of Sports Physiotherapy, which has allowed him to become an APA Titled Sports Physiotherapist.

He is a keen sportsman and played Aussie Rules for North Adelaide and represented South Australia and Australia in Gaelic Football. During his post-graduate study he spent time with the Port Adelaide Football Club (AFL) and in the USA with the Milwaukee Bucks (NBA). Jamie currently provides physiotherapy services for the Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL), the U/18 Men's SA basketball team, and is also a physiotherapist for the Emerging Boomers/Boomers (Australian U25's & Men's Basketball teams), as well as having previously worked with Triathlon SA junior state teams.

His current physiotherapy interest include sports injuries with an interest in biomechanics and injury prevention, with a keen interest in running injuries, golf injuries, muscle strains, athletic groin/hip pain and knee rehabilitation. He also has a keen interest in orthopaedic rehabilitation, as well as using acupuncture/dry needling regularly as a treatment technique to assist with active management and exercise prescription.

Jamie’s is also a keen golfer, sports fanatic and also enjoys traveling with his family.

David Giles

David is a senior physiotherapist who has undertaken further post graduate studies completing a Master in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, allowing David to be a titled APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. David has a special interest in management and treatment of persistent pain and complex injuries. This interest has lead David to consult part time at the Complex Injury Group (www.complexinjurygroup.com.au), which is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a Pain Physician, psychologist and occupational therapist.

David is experienced in the treatment of low back pain (LBP). LBP affects 90% of the adult population-making it a very common complaint. However, the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment can vary between every individual. When you see David he will be able to provide you with a specific diagnosis and explanation of the injury and help you recover.

David attends regular courses and conferences which further develops his physiotherapy skills. Courses include Manipulation and mobilisation of the spine, certificate in Spinal manual therapy, Mulligan techniques, dry needling/acupuncture, Sports level 1 & 2 and a lot of Pain topics!

Outside of work David enjoys cooking and spending time with his family.

Matthew Brockhouse

Matt graduated as a physiotherapist at University of South Australia in 2010. He also completed a sports science degree in 2007. Matt’s special interests include sports injuries and orthopaedic rehabilitation. Matt has on-field experience with various sporting teams and is currently working with his local football team, Lobethal, in the Adelaide Hills Football League, and has previously played for the Sturt Football Club (SANFL).

Although Matt enjoys a “hands on” approach to physiotherapy, he places a large emphasis on patient education and advice during treatment and has a strong belief that both therapist and patient play vital roles in achieving patient goals. Furthermore, he has additional training in dry needling, vestibular dysfunction including dizziness/BPPV and pain management and particularly enjoys treating neck pain.

Rachel McAlister

Rachel graduated from the University of South Australia in 1991 and has worked predominantly in private practice. Rachel completed a Masters degree in Sports Physiotherapy in 1996, and moved to QLD where she owned her own practice. Rachel returned to Adelaide in 2005 and worked in private practice as well as commencing with neurosurgeon Dr Matthew McDonald (a joint venture with Flex Rehabilitation Clnic) in 2014 to establish a Rapid Spinal Assessment Clinic (STAT) offering comprehensive outcomes for patients with thorough assessment and management.

In over 20 years Rachel has worked extensively with sporting teams and athletes both recreational and elite. Rachel has been the physiotherapist for the Opals (Australian Women’s Basketball Team) since 2009 and has represented in this role at World Championships, the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. She has also been team physiotherapist for the U/19 Australian Women’s Basketball Team, the Townsville Fire (WNBL), the North Queensland Barras (NHL), in addition to working with the QLD Academy of Sport and other state and regional teams across a variety of sports.

Rachel’s clinical interests include management and rehabilitation of hip and groin injuries, spinal problems (including neurosurgical rehabilitation), lower limb injuries, Pilates and Orthopaedic rehabilitation. In her spare time, she loves spending most of her time with family and being outdoors.

Penny Chappell

Penny, a Kapunda local, graduated from the University of South Australia in 2000 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. Penny has been part of our team since 2012, after previous roles in Port Lincoln, London and the Barossa. She is a passionate physiotherapist servicing both our Gawler and Kapunda clients.

Penny has particular interests in sporting and general musculoskeletal injuries, Pilates, lumbo-pelvic dysfunctions, pregnancy and post-natal physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Penny is very much a hands on physio and utilises her manual therapy skills, combined with a strong exercise focus. Her extensive training in Pilates (DMA Clinical Pilates) is accessible in our Kapunda based Pilates classes and can also achieve great results as part of individual injury treatment and preventative management.

Outside of work, Penny loves spending time with her young family, running around a netball court for the Kapunda Bombers and keeping active within the community.

Jess Hesketh

Jess was born in Gawler and has continued to live locally. She graduated at the University of South Australia completing a Bachelor of Applied Science in 2012. She continued her education with a passion for helping people and the human body completing her Master in Physiotherapy in 2013.

Jess has a passion for women’s health specialising in pregnancy, post natal care, incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction through all stages of life. She runs our Gawler Pilates classes specifically for low back pain and injury prevention.

Jess uses a hands-on approach, supported with active rehabilitation to provide short and long term-relief. Her other interests include gym work, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Liam Nottle

Liam is a Gawler local, who graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours in 2016 from the University of South Australia. Liam's special interests include musculoskeletal injuries, sporting injuries and paediatrics which he completed his honours on.

He has undergone additional training for dry needling and completed the APA level 1 Sports Physiotherapy course. He enjoys working in the community and has previously worked as a sports trainer for the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club, the Redbacks Premier League competition (Eastern Edge) and for the Trinity Old Scholars Football Club. Liam has just started working as a Physiotherapist for Volleyball SA's junior volleyball program.

Liam enjoys playing Cricket and Aussie Rules, and is an avid viewer of the NBA and NFL. He is also a keen cook, who is rumoured to do a mean Carbonara. He has a strong belief that for effective Physiotherapy to occur, a good relationship between the patient and therapist should be formed as communication plays a vital role in overall treatment success.

Emma joined Physioactive in 2011, bringing with her 11 years of extensive office administration experience. She has grown up in Gawler and still resides in the town.

She is always willing to help out others and always brings a smile with her. She loves spending time with her two children, family and friends and likes to always be active outdoors.
